Gaslighting, it’s effects and how to protect yourself and others. New Workshop on 24th June 2016 by Christine Louis De Canonville

One of the most insidious and dangerous tools that a narcissist holds in their Armoury of abuse is a behavioural technique called “Gaslighting”.

Click on this line to visit Christine’s website to read her post titled “What is Gaslighting“.

Gaslighting is a most subtle and cunning Machiavellian behaviour used against the victim, where “nothing is ever as it seems”.
The Gaslighting Effect is truly a convoluted dance that involves mind games that all narcissists use for conditioning, grooming, indoctrinating, controlling, and altering their victim’s reality. The intention is to, in a systematic way, target the victim’s mental equilibrium, self-confidence, and self-esteem. Eventually they are no longer able to function in an independent way and believe that they are going mad.

GASLIGHTING WORKSHOP
On 24th June 2016 I’m running a workshop on Gaslighting, it’s effects and how to protect yourself and others.
In this workshop we shall take an in-depth look at:
1.    Gaslighting: as a form of psychological warfare used against the  victim in a deliberate and progressive way.
2.    Expose how the “Narcissistic Puppet Master’s” lead the relationship through different phases; The Idealisation Stage, Devaluation Stage, and  finally, the Discarding Stage.
3.    Understanding the Plight of the Gaslighting Effect, and how it effects the victim.
4.    Learn the warning “Red Flags” for staying safe.
5.    Do a forensic analysis of a case study for understanding the    narcissists subtle covert aggression.

“What is No Contact with a Narcissistic Abuser?” interview with Christine Louis De Canonville

What is No Contact with a Narcissistic Abuser?

This is a really informative radio interview especially so for Victims in a Emotionally Abusive Relationship with someone with Narcissistic Personality Disorder or other variant of Cluster-B Disorder.

Christine discusses various forms of “No Contact”. Sometimes absolute “No Contact” is very difficult to accomplish and she also discusses the fall back option of “Low Contact“.

Christine Louis de Canonville is an awesome highly regarded Health Care Professional, due to her extensive knowledge (Personal and Professional) and experience with helping others. She herself was once a victim and has much empathy for those stuck in abusive relationships with a Narcissist. She understands how and why Victims are trying to make sense of the insanity and illusions which are part of such a relationship.

“Christine Louis de Canonville” new workshop titled “UNDERSTANDING THE SELF-ABSORBED NARCISSISTIC MOTHER”

UPDATE Feb 16 2016Repaired all the links in this post. They now work again and take you to Christine’s site. Not sure what happened, but they do work now.

New Workshop On Narcissistic Mothers – The 26th February 2016
It’s almost time for my 3rd workshop. It’s about narcissistic mothers and the effects on her children.

It’s called “Mommie Dearest” – UNDERSTANDING THE SELF-ABSORBED NARCISSISTIC MOTHER.Revealing the Narcissistic Mother:

A mature mother with normal, healthy maternal nurturing instincts is a woman who is selfless, validates and loves her children unconditionally. She parents her children with empathy, and attunes into their inner emotional life as she prepares them for independent living when the time comes for them to leave the nest.

A narcissistic mother, on the other hand, is the antithesis of the mother I described above.  She is a mother who, instead of nurturing her children, is self-centred and mainly focused on herself. Rather than taking care of herself, the narcissistic mother expects to be taken care of by her children.

She neither trusts her children, nor believes in their basic goodness. She is brittle, controlling, does not observe boundaries, never apologizes or remembers her inappropriate behaviour, needs to be always right, will fly into rages, and project that anger onto her children.

She frightens her children, and discourages their independence. She needs to be the centre of attention, and is jealous if the children get attention from others. Her children are mere objects who represent her and show her in good light, but at the same time she is envious of their accomplishments, gifts and talents.

Her punishment is inconsistent and punitive, and she often uses the threat of abandonment to control them. All of this craziness serves to confuse her children and undermine their self esteem.  Of course, to the outside world everything is perfect, but behind closed doors the child is exposed to the horror of dealing with a mother with a Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD).

If you are the child of a narcissistic mother, or if you are a therapist working with the adult children of a narcissistic mother, then you need to understand that you are dealing with the behaviours of a mother who acts from a different set of criteria than the regular healthy loving mother.  As you can imagine, this disordered kind of parenting creates significant emotional damage to the child.

“Narcissistic Victim Syndrome….What the heck is that?” talk given by “Christine Louis de Canonville” at the Irish Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists in Dublin, in October 2015

Narcissistic Victim Syndrome….What the heck is that?” was a talk given by “Christine Louis de Canonville” at the Irish Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists in Dublin, in October 2015.

To understand “Narcissistic Victim Syndrome” one must have an understanding of Narcissistic Personality Disorder and it’s pathology.

This is an extremely informative talk which sheds much light on the darkness which is Narcissistic Abuse and Narcissistic Personality Disorder. She speaks of growing up with a Narcissistic Psychopathic brother.

One key mentioned is that once you have been “primed” by a Narcissist, then you attract Narcissists by the boatload.

Please take the time to listen to the whole video. You will be glad that you did.

The Narcissist’s Addiction to Narcissistic Supply

The Narcissists Addiction to Narcissistic Supply is a superbly informative article posted by Christine Louis de Canonville.

Quoting from the article:

“Narcissistic Supply really refers to those people who provide a constant source of attention, approval, adoration, admiration, etc., for the narcissist. The attention they receive from the “Supply Source” is vital for the survival of the narcissist, without it they would die (either physically or metaphorically), because their weak ego depends on it in order to regulate their unstable self-worth and self-esteem.”

“Furthermore, they cannot tolerate any sign of independence and autonomy from their “supply”, this only serves to enrage them. The narcissistic supply is there to serve them”

“The source of Secondary Narcissistic Supply comes from those people and things that provide that supply on a regular basis; spouse, family, friends, colleagues, partners, business etc., all of which give them a feeling of security and pride, and the appearance of leading a well-adjusted life. “

“Once again the narcissist goes looking for a new narcissistic source, and if necessary they will resort to a lower social network of victim in order to feed the addiction for admiration. “

Christine Louis de Canonville is also the author of the book titled:
THE 3 FACES OF EVIL – Unmasking The Full Spectrum Of Narcissistic Abuse

This excellent book is only available from Christine’s website linked to above.

“WHAT IS GASLIGHTING?” (THE NARCISSIST’S COVERT METHODS OF INTERPERSONAL CONTROL). Upcoming workshop facilitated by Christine Louis de Canonville

Gaslighting is a form of psychological abuse used by narcissists in order to instill in their victim’s an extreme sense of anxiety and confusion, to the point where they no longer trust their own memory, perception or judgment.

The techniques used in “Gaslighting” by the narcissist are similar to those used in brainwashing, interrogation, and torture that have been used in psychological warfare by intelligence operative, law enforcement and other forces for decades. The intention is to, in a systematic way, target the victim’s mental equilibrium, self confidence, and self esteem so that they are no longer able to function in an independent way, giving the narcissist full control over the victim.

This Gaslighting workshop is by Christine Louis de Canonville, who is an expert in this field.
